List of topics that are important to me.

  • There are a few topics that are important to me, one of them being our education system. Students today (in Ohio) are suffering because our schools are funded by property taxes. Low income areas have less money for school, teachers, and student activities compared to students who live in higher income areas. Schools propose levies in hopes they will pass. In communities where many households do not have children in school, the levies tend to fail because home owners do not want their taxes increased in order to benefit the school systems.
  • Another thing that I am passionate about is the stagnant wages and ever increasing costs of living. In recent years, many states and companies are striving to bring the wages up to par, but what does that do to the economy? I have always been interested in ways that this issue can be fixed.
  • One other issue that I think is important is the college debate. Should everyone go to college? Should every profession require a college degree? The idea that every student should go to college is creating a shortage of trade skills, and an abundance of students who have expensive degrees for low paying jobs.
  • Since I’ve had my daughter I have chosen to cloth diaper. I have a big issue with disposable diapers, not just because of the very obvious environmental impact, but the amount of chemicals that are exposed to a baby just by wearing them. They are unsafe, and terrible for the environment, but companies like Huggies and Luvs make little or no effort to change the standard disposable diaper.
  • Another issue that is important to me is that children are not taught enough basic life skills in the classroom. Things like home economics, checks and balances, and life budgeting are missing. These subjects have been removed from school and it is beginning to show in the newer generations. Many of my peers have no idea how to budget, or write a check, let alone cook a meal from scratch. I just feel as though people are losing a lot of basic life skills.
  • One issue that is also important to me is attachment parenting. There are many ways to parent, and I am not one to tell anyone how to parent. But when people continue to use practices that have been proven detrimental (Such are CIO – Cry it Out) to a child’s development I can’t help but speak up.
  • I would like to add one more thing. This one is a pretty hot political debate right now and that would be our Second Amendment rights. I am a strong advocate for a citizens right to bear arms. It is important not only for personal protection, but from protection against the governing body put in place to protect you.
